Long Island House
by 1100 Architect
Long Island House is a beach house located on the eastern shore of Long Island. The design of the house is conceived as emerging from the landscape, with the two principal elements of the main house and pavilion sitting upon a base that extends into the surrounding terrain. The dune environment is drawn within the bounds of the house by native plantings within the green roof and terrace gardens. Upon arrival on the north side, the main house presents itself as a raised stone-clad volume with rectangular windows. On the more private south side, this volume unexpectedly unfolds to reveal a glass façade that maximizes ocean views and natural light, while generous overhangs provide shade to interior spaces and terrace areas.
